Cranberries

I love cranberries. I love the tartness of them. So I made cranberry scones and cranberry bread to take back east to the people we love. Ina Garten has the best recipe.

Yummy! I also used organic eggs in this recipe. It is so nice to live where more organic products are available. These scones are not sweet, just flaky and good! I put silver sugar on top to make them festive for Christmas. My MIL will love me for these!

The cranberry bread smelled good. It is a different thing. Sweeter and yet still tart would best describe these.

Why a Green Thread?

Some 40 years ago, or more, there arose a dispute between my sister and my brother-in-law over a certain piece of fabric. Was it gray, or was it green? I don't remember who argued which way, but in the end, my peacemaking sister pointed to the cloth and explained, "Look--it has a green thread in it!"

From then on, we were finding "a green thread" in every piece of fabric we saw. It had become a family joke.

As time went on, and the concept of going green came along, it occurred to me that our family had been green all along, recycling, repurposing, reusing all we could, more out of necessity than social conscience. So today I see that there is a metaphorical green thread running through our family.

It goes beyond using what you have, which we do. It's more than just finding pleasure in making old things new. It's making sure everything in your home has a purpose. You see, holding on to something you no longer need is wastefulness. So it's really about respecting God's provision. And look for a green thread in everything.
