There is Something About Spring

There is something about spring that I do not like.  Don't get me wrong, it is not all bad.  I do enjoy the warm-up, especially if it happens more slowly instead of overnight.  Spring comes after things have been sleeping for months and not much has been groomed or taken care of for months.  The way things just start growing here and there and after a rain and a warm day they shoot up quickly makes it seem a lot more like an unkept yard than say the last time you mow in the fall.  It is much too"wooly" for my liking.  If the area is to be kept cut, like a yard, I like it short and organized.  But just letting things grow up and take over is not organized and I don't like not knowing what might be hiding under the new growth.  Just one of my quirks.

You know the fields of purple weeds that come up first, that is what this is.

Buds already on the tree, although this seems late, but we are still having some freezing temps at night.

Then there is the winter garden that survived all during this long winter.  The husband is the master gardener here and he planted this little raised bed garden last fall.  We kept it covered during the cold days and covered also with heavy plastic and a light during zero and close days and nights.  Here it is, survived and producing.

Note the clever way to keep the garden warm, the light in the pot.  It worked, because we had some single digits and below zero nights that had to potential to kill this, but the light plus the frost cloth and then the heavy plastic, kept this garden toasty when it needed to be.
