CSA Goodness

I have had the privilege of being a part of a Community Supported Agriculture group this summer, Arkansas Valley Organic Growers. Here are some of my Friday surprises.

The white on the left is oyster mushrooms! We made a wonderful stir-fry with them and the bok choy.

This lettuce is beautiful!

Heirloom roma tomatoes.

And last but not least, eggs every week!

Life is GOOD!

Why a Green Thread?

Some 40 years ago, or more, there arose a dispute between my sister and my brother-in-law over a certain piece of fabric. Was it gray, or was it green? I don't remember who argued which way, but in the end, my peacemaking sister pointed to the cloth and explained, "Look--it has a green thread in it!"

From then on, we were finding "a green thread" in every piece of fabric we saw. It had become a family joke.

As time went on, and the concept of going green came along, it occurred to me that our family had been green all along, recycling, repurposing, reusing all we could, more out of necessity than social conscience. So today I see that there is a metaphorical green thread running through our family.

It goes beyond using what you have, which we do. It's more than just finding pleasure in making old things new. It's making sure everything in your home has a purpose. You see, holding on to something you no longer need is wastefulness. So it's really about respecting God's provision. And look for a green thread in everything.
